Using authentic sources to introduce vocabulary facilitates engagement, helps students learn words naturally, provides linguistic context, and offers the fun of problem solving within the target language. The end result: a vocab list the kids have ‘bought into’ and often have memorized before it is even finalized. No more boring memorization: Make learning vocabulary one of the most student-centered, technology-integrated, and fun parts of your classroom!

Effective Use of Feedback, Rubrics, and Self-Evaluation
Best of FLANC 2022 Spring Conference Offering

In this session, we will discuss how a few simple adjustments to instructional practices can yield huge improvements in a student’s understanding of their own learning. We will examine techniques for using rubrics more effectively, the value of taking time to implement feedback, and ways to increase student awareness of their own language proficiency and goals.
